Art Therapy

Art therapy uses a range of creative processes, including drawing, collage, sculpting and painting, using various art materials such as paints, pencils, textas, crayons, plasticine, plaster and clay.
Art therapy is beneficial for people, of all ages, who wish to work through emotions, experiences and issues and helps people to identify, perceive and/or shape problems or concerns in a different ways.
Through the process of making art, people are able to express, process and understand emotions and experiences. Art therapy can assist with developing, reinforcing and strengthening one’s self awareness, validation and self expression to improve coping skills, self regulation and self confidence.
Often people, particularly children, cannot identify or articulate their feelings or experiences and art therapy is used as a way for individuals to express themselves in a fun, engaging and non-confrontational way. Art therapy helps children self regulate, self soothe, improve behaviour, release emotions, become clearer and more engaged with kinder, school and with their families and peers.
Art therapy does not require you to be good at art, the focus is on the creative process and self expression rather than creating beautiful artworks. No artistic talent is required.
Work at the Clay Field

‘Work at the Clay Field’ is a Sensorimotor Art Therapy and body focussed modality that helps improve physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. It is a bottom up therapeutic approach that works with body memories as opposed to talking about past, present and often traumatic experiences.
There is no art work to be taken home, Work at the Clay Field helps clients to express themselves, process emotions and consequently can address early attachment issues, developmental delays, traumatic experiences and behavioural issues in a mostly non-verbal way and consequently can assist with restoring balance, wholeness and wellbeing.
Clients work with a box of clay, which is symbolic to ‘their world,’ a playground for the hands to explore, inspire, create and play and represents the unique interaction between the sense of touch and the hand/brain connection.
Work at the Clay Field has been a respected and recognised therapeutic approach in Europe for over 40 years and Clay Field therapists continue to work in schools and wellbeing spaces to facilitate trauma healing at the Clay Field.
